Project Description

This work is part of the PAINTER project, supported by la Région Wallonne.

Since the advent of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), accurate selection and delineation of target volumes (TVs) and organs at risk (OARs) have become critical steps in radiotherapy.

Indeed, steep dose gradients are generated by such techniques and any inaccuracy in the selection and delineation of TVs may lead to a lack of tumor control and/or unwanted healthy tissue irradiations, decreasing therefore the therapeutic index.

In order to circumvent the drawbacks of manual segmentation, this project aims at facilitating the oncologist’s work using state-of-the-art image processing algorithms. This includes automatic segmentation by non-rigid registration of atlas, and semi-interactive segmentation. This project focuses on head and neck regions on CT images.
